‘Sex magic’ is the term we use for ritualising the alignment of ourselves with the cosmos of which we are a part, discovering what that alignment calls forth, meeting the result and manifesting that result in the world for the benefit of all. 
What is Sex Magic?
Unfortunately, it’s no exaggeration to say that magic has had a bit of a bad press over the years. From using accusations of witchcraft to conveniently get rid of anyone who challenged the social norms in medieval times (usually by the simple subversive act of being born a woman in an age where this was seen as dangerous to the status quo), to, in more recent times, the Disney-fication and relegation of magic to children’s fairy-tales; or, by the idea that by simply wishing for something hard enough, or making a ‘celestial shopping-list’ (aka ‘The Secret’) would be enough to make it magically appear, the idea of magic is often viewed as fantastical or childish.
However, things have not always been this way. Let’s consider for a moment, what magic actually is. All it really means is that we have the ability to manifest something with deliberate intent. We pay attention to what we know about the laws of energy using ritual and concentrated focus to intensify our heart’s desire and cause it to become solid in the material universe. The key being that if we can focus and distil our intent to its natural essence and then charge it with sufficient energy to take it outside of our everyday material plane, which is governed by the laws of mechanics and physics, and launch it into the realms of subtle energy – quantum physics or magical reality – then everything becomes possible. We only have to look back to shamanic cultures which existed long before the Christian Church, or that still exist today in ‘less developed’ parts of the world, to see that this idea was, at one time, widely-accepted.
So, to go back to the original question, what is Sex Magic? Sex Magic is a particular form of magic that follows the conventional rules of manifesting, and uses the vehicle of sexual energy to charge up the vision of what is desired before releasing it into the realms of subtle energy.
We often run workshops on this theme, at auspicious times of the year such as New Year or Beltane, for the reason that it can be very motivating (and, of course, fun!) to do these rituals in the company of other people. But, you can just as effectively do the practice either alone or with a partner.
The practice works equally well for desires that pertain to personal development or healing; to manifesting a love relationship or improving an existing relationship; or for material desires such as financial wealth, a new home or a new job. People sometimes worry that this sort of practice could be dangerous, i.e. have unwanted and unintended consequences, but as long as the desire comes from a place of heart and is requested in the cause of ‘doing no harm’ – either to others or to the natural world – then there is no danger, as the Universe only wants us to have the best experience of being incarnated on Earth.
So, if you would like to have a go at creating a Sex Magic ritual for yourself, or for your partnership, here are the steps to that need to be followed. They are all important so be careful not to miss anything out of the sequence.
- Identify your desire. You might know, or think you know, what it is that you want, but allow yourself to be guided by the Universe – notice signs or omens (synchronicities) – and try to let go of rigid expectations. That said, it is useful to identify the details in order that the request is a precise as possible: e.g. what sort of home and where is it? What are the specific features? Or what are the qualities of the mate you wish to bring in?
- Tune into the energy of the desire. Here we need to dis-identify with the concrete situation or object that we are wanting to manifest and tune into how would we actually feel in the situation where we had what we wanted? For example, can you visualise yourself in your new home? How do you feel as you walk through the rooms? Maybe it is a feeling of safety that you have a beautiful home or maybe it is a feeling of opulence. How does it make you feel to be in the arms of your beloved?
- Create a sigil to represent the desire. A sigil is a magical symbol. Here we are going to create a visual distillation of what we are wanting to manifest. The sigil can be in the form of a picture (it is best to make it as simple as possible as we will need to hold a visualisation of this in our minds later), or it can be words. If you choose to use words to describe your wish, then use as few as possible and traditionally, all letters that are repeated are deleted so that each letter only appears once. The letters of the words can also be arranged to form a design that encapsulates the essence of the desire. Usually, we would want to contain the sigil within a circle or a bowl shape to hold the energy.
- Create ritual space for the ceremony. To be a ritual, everything in the environment, every word, every action, every gesture has meaning. Nothing is superfluous. Make sure the space is clean and tidy and use power objects such as crystals, candles, flowers, feathers, paintings or statues to enhance the sacredness of the space. Wear special robes or be naked or wear a lunghi. Call the directions and powers if this is within your tradition or call on your own guides and deities to come and support you. If you are working with a partner, greet them with a heart salutation to open the space.
- Imprint the sigil into your body. Study the sigil and commit its essence to memory. Take time to really feel the vibration of it. Hold onto the image in your mind’s eye and imagine that you are planting it, like a seed in your root chakra, at your perineum.
- Charge the sigil with energy. Here we need to amplify the energy of the sigil by charging it with our sexual energy. If we are doing this in a group situation then we would fan the flames of our sexual energy by feeding it with our breath, movement – a gentle rocking backwards and forwards of the pelvis – and sound. If you are doing this in a private space then, of course, you can amplify the energy further by adding in lovemaking or self-pleasuring.
- Draw the energised sigil up your body through each chakra. We further feed the energy in the sigil by imagining it travelling up the inner-flute through the centre of our body, being fed by the relevant-coloured flame as we pause at each of the chakras. (Root: red; sacral: orange; solar-plexus: yellow; heart: green; throat: sky-blue; third-eye: violet). Allow it to travel up as far as the third-eye twice, each time dropping it back to the first chakra to begin again, and on the third ascent, let it hover at the crown chakra, slightly above the top of your head where it is bathed in pearly-white light.
- Allow the sigil to travel upwards to the heavens. Now it is time to let go of the efforting. See the sigil floating slowly upwards from above your head into the dark, night sky. Watch it get smaller and smaller until it is just a small dot of light, like one of the stars.
- Let go of expectations. Now you don’t have to do anything. You sit back and wait, attending to your daily life. The desire might be manifested quickly or it might be take more time. But it is planted in the matrix and will blossom. It cannot be otherwise. It is possible that it might not take exactly the form that you imagined when you made the initial visualisation. But be assured, that the energy you felt associated with the request is exactly what you will receive. We always have to allow room for the Universe to provide something that is actually better than what we could imagine for ourselves! Hopefully, this gives you an idea of what a Sex Magic ritual looks like. Of course, for each of the steps there are many more details than it is possible to give here (without actually writing a book on the subject!).
